Amoco Premier starts as a premium fuel right at the refinery. There, Amoco engineers select and
blend premium quality base stocks into Amoco Premier. Then, to make it even better, we add our exclusive Guardian additive

Cetane Rating for Superior Ignition Quality The cetane rating of a diesel fuel defines its ignition
quality; the higher the cetane rating, the better the quality. While ordinary No. 2 diesel fuels are typically blended to
meet a cetane of 40 to 45, Amoco Premier’s high 50 cetane number (ASTM D-613) provides easier ignition and quicker starting
at lower temperatures. It also means more complete burning of the fuel to reduce exhaust smoke and odor while providing faster,
smoother warm-up and quieter operation.
Formulated for Superior Performance
Amoco Premier is formulated for superior performance and protection while meeting the toughest demands of day-to-day
operations. Amoco’s strict quality standards assure that Amoco Premier meets or exceeds all industry quality requirements
included in the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D-975 specification for No. 2 diesel fuels as well as all
the recommended guidelines set by the EMA for Premium No. 2 diesel fuel.
Seasonally and Geographically Adjusted Properties for Improved Low Temperature Performance
Cloud point and pour point are two important properties that relate to fuel performance in cold
weather. The cloud point is the temperature at which the natural waxes in diesel fuel begin to form visible crystals. The
pour point is the temperature at which enough wax crystals have formed so that the fuel will not flow. Because these wax crystals
can plug fuel filters and cause engine stalling, fuels with lower cloud and pour points provide better cold weather performance.
Two ways of controlling these properties include blending with No. 1 diesel and using additives
to improve low temperature performance. While both of these options can result in a product with better cold weather properties,
quality degradation can result if they are incorrectly employed. Too much blending with No. 1 can diminish the lubricating
properties of the fuel and reduce fuel economy and power. Additives not tailored to the fuels may provide little or no improvement
in fuel properties.
Amoco Premier Diesel Fuel is blended using a combination of components and tailored additives,
providing improved cloud and pour points that are better than those of most No. 2 diesel fuels. At the same time, we balance
these improvements with other properties to ensure the premium performance of 50 cetane and adequate lubrication for injection
pumps and injectors. And, those properties are adjusted seasonally and geographically to best fit customer needs.
Low Sulfur Content for Minimum Engine Oil Contamination and Engine Wear, Both on and off the Highway
Sulfur is a natural impurity occurring in petroleum products. Too much sulfur
in diesel fuel can cause deterioration in engine oil quality by combining with moisture and forming acids. These conditions
can lead to corrosion and wear problems. Amoco controls the amount of sulfur in Amoco Premier Diesel Fuel, Low Sulfur to less
than 0.05 wt%, which meets EPA’s on highway requirements. This sulfur control, along with Amoco Premier’s superior
ignition quality, provides cleaner diesel exhaust with reduced levels of undesirable particulates.
Carefully Controlled Volatility for Improved Performance
The volatility characteristics of a diesel fuel, as defined by its distillation range, are another indicator
of how it will perform. The distillation range of Amoco Premier is carefully controlled through our strict quality specifications
and results in a product that has a narrower distillation range than the average No. 2 diesel fuel. This also provides performance
benefits in the areas of noise, smoke, exhaust odor, cold starting, and warm-up time.
